5 September 2006: Japan finances the project Technical and Vocational Education in Djibouti"

This is another example of an education-related project financed under the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Capacity-building of Human Resources in Africa . This two-year which began in June 2006.
Objectives of the project:
This project aims at assisting Djibouti in reaching Education for All (EFA) goals by reinforcing the country's technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system and adapting it to the socio-economic environment and labour market demands in Djibouti .
The updating of the TVET programmes and training plans will help to empower young people to alleviate poverty. The priority groups that will benefit from this project include youth, marginalized groups and women.
Activities foreseen:
Sustainability is at the very centre of this project, with activities such as:
- the development of new curricula and a reference framework as well as accompanying material for TVET diploma programmes;
-the preparation of a pilot team to ensure the training of teachers and institution heads.
15 Education advisors will be trained over a period of 3 years, and will transfer their knowledge to about 110 other education specialists who will be in charge of implementing the reference framework and TVET programmes.
