The Delegation

The Permanent Delegation of Japan to UNESCO is a diplomatic mission established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) to facilitate the fulfillment of its missions and duties as a Member State of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Welcome to our Website.

Like Japan, most of UNESCO's 195 Member States have established Permanent Delegations to UNESCO to liaise between the Organization and their governments.

Member States make decision on UNESCO's programmes on the basis of consensus, and the budget to implement these programmes is mainly covered by Member States' contributions.

Our country is deeply involved and actively participates in the preparation and implementation of UNESCO's programmes. In cooperation with the other countries, Japan helps UNESCO to implement essential and high priority activities aiming at contributing to materialize peace in the world.
