Tokyo, 15-17 December 2005: Meeting of the International Bioethics Committee (IBC)
The International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO (IBC) held its 12 th session in Japan. It was the first time that the thirty-six IBC experts met in Asia, and also the first meeting since the adoption, on 19 October 2005, of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights by the Member States of UNESCO.
The main items on the agenda were the implementation of the principles contained in the Declaration, the current events in the field of bioethics and the election of a new President and a new Bureau.
The meeting was organized with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO, in partnership with Sophia University, Tokyo.
