Message from His Excellency Mr Isao Kiso,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,
Permanent Delegate of Japan to UNESCO
"Welcome to the website of the Permanent Delegation of Japan to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
I took my position as Ambassador of Japan to UNESCO on 17 September 2010.
The international community presently faces numerous global challenges such as conflicts, poverty, climate change. They can only be solved by bringing together the wisdom of humanity.
UNESCO is a United Nations agency specialized in the fields of education, sciences, culture and communication. It was created to promote international peace and the common welfare of humankind. The Organization's efforts to facilitate mutual understanding between the peoples and construct peace in the minds of people are increasingly important in the contemporary international community.
Japan joined UNESCO right after World War II even before becoming a member of the United Nations. As a responsible member of the international community, Japan, both of its public and private sectors, has been joining UNESCO's activities vigorously. Japan will continue to actively contribute to UNESCO so that the Organization can lead intellectual debate, promote innovative ideas, and implement various projects effectively.
It would be my utmost pleasure if this website helps your understanding on UNESCO's activities as well as Japan's initiatives through UNESCO."
