Japan and the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST)
Since 1998, the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology's role is to advice UNESCO on programmes related to ethics and scientific knowledge and technology, and to formulate ethical principles that could provide decision-makers with criteria other than purely economic.
Besides its role as an advisory body, COMEST is also a forum of ideas and experiences, with a view to promote dialogues between scientific communities, decision-makers and the public at large.
Japan contributes to COMEST through the participation of Japanese experts.
