The Delegation
The Permanent Delegation of Japan to UNESCO is a diplomatic mission established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) who acts as a liaison between governments of the Member States and the Secretariat of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in order to facilitate the fulfillment of its missions and duties as a Member State of UNESCO.
Including Japan, most of UNESCO’s Member States have established Permanent Delegations to UNESCO working closely with the Organization and their government.
Member States make decisions on UNESCO's programmes based on consensus and provide financial support to its budget.
Japan joined UNESCO in 1951 and has been deeply involved in its activities.
In cooperation with other countries, Japan contributes to and helps UNESCO deliver essential programmes to achieve its priorities and promote peace and development.
