Japan’s contribution to support UNESCO’s activities to meet urgent needs of media professionals in Ukraine

2022/3/25
UNESCO has launched an emergency relief response to support the needs of media professionals in Ukraine.

UNESCO’s Communications and Information Sector (CI), has in the past provided media support in response to urgent needs due to crises and conflicts including in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan, and Lebanon (after the Beirut Port explosion).

Since the Russian federation’s aggression against Ukraine began, the CI Sector started providing protection equipment such as helmets and bullet-proof vests to journalists in Ukraine. A limited number of this protection equipment is already being provided and UNESCO is planning to provide additional support including immediate relief (estimated cost: $650,000). Japan has pledged to contribute $100,000 to support UNESCO’s efforts to address the current crisis in Ukraine.
