21 October 2024: Side event during the 220th session of the Executive Board “Good Practices in Education for Sustainable Development in SIDS”
2024/10/21

On 21 October, at UNESCO Headquarters, the Permanent Delegation of Japan to UNESCO and the UNESCO Secretariat co-organized a side event entitled “Good Practices in Education for Sustainable Development in SIDS”, in the margins of the 220th Session of the Executive Board. The event was attended by about 80 stakeholders (in addition to around 250 online participants) mainly from Permanent Delegations to UNESCO.
The event highlighted, as good practices, ESD initiatives in Saint Kitts and Nevis and Cabo Verde, two SIDS Member States benefiting from Japan's support in this area. Ambassador Kano noted that while the concept of ESD itself has become widely accepted, the challenge remains how to translate this concept into concrete educational policies and curricula. He therefore hoped that this event would be an opportunity for the participants to gain inspiration on how to promote ESD in their country, taking into account their specificity of each of them.
Japan will continue to support ESD initiatives in Africa and SIDS.
