2024/12/12

On 12 December, a reception was hosted at the Residence of the Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Japan to UNESCO, inviting the Members of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the UNESCO Secretariat. The event aimed to celebrate the inscription of the ‘Traditional knowledge and skills of sake-making with koji mold in Japan’ on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was held in Asunción (Paraguay) from 2 to 6 December.
Ambassador Kano seized this opportunity to express his gratitude to the Members of the Committee and the UNESCO Secretariat for their support and highlighted, once again, the charms of these ‘traditional knowledge and skills’.
The guests also enjoyed a special medley performance by Ms Mitsuko Ito, a Japanese violinist with a successful career in France, including ‘Love's Greeting’ (E. W. Elgar) and ‘Raindrops’ Waltz’ (Mitsuko Ito).
Japan will continue to contribute to the protection and transmission of Japan's cultural heritage, including ‘traditional knowledge and skills of sake-making with koji mold’.
