From May 20 to 23, the Annual Review Meeting of the Japan Trust Fund was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, between the Government of Japan and the UNESCO Secretariat, both in person and online. On the first day of the meeting, the plenary meeting was held with the Japanese side led by Ambassador KANO Takehiro and joined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC).

This meeting is held every year to confirm the implementation status of funds contributed by Japan to the UNESCO Secretariat.

UNESCO explained the status of the programs implemented by UNESCO based on Japan's support, including the Japan Trust Fund, and expressed appreciation for Japan's contribution.

In response, Japan explained that it would continue to support UNESCO's efforts in the five priority areas of “Protection of all forms of heritage in danger”, “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)”, “Disaster Risk Reduction”, “UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development”, “AI & Digital Transformation.” The participants also discussed administrative and financial issues to ensure the smooth implementation of UNESCO's initiatives.

From 26 to the 28 May, the exchange of views is scheduled on the implementation of individual programs supported by Japan with the Secretariat Headquarters and UNESCO field offices.
