24 June 2025: Annual Reception “Japanese Evening”

2025/6/24

On Tuesday 24 June, the Permanent Delegation of Japan to UNESCO hosted the annual “Japanese Evening” Reception at the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris (MCJP). Around 150 guests attended, mainly Members of the UNESCO Secretariat and various Permanent Delegations.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Japan’s membership to UNESCO, a documentary film was screened showing the Session of the 6th General Conference of UNESCO in 1951, during which Japan’s membership was approved. In his speech, Ambassador Kano emphasized the fact that since it joined UNESCO, Japan has constantly contributed to UNESCO's activities in the various fields of the Organisation’s mandate and that it will continue to do so. Ms Véra EL KHOURY LACOEUILHE, Chairperson of the Executive Board of UNESCO, and Mr Xing QU, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, also gave speeches emphasizing Japan's role in the Organisation.

The reception provided a valuable opportunity to showcase various aspects of Japanese culture, which guests were able to enjoy thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Kura Master Association (organiser since 2017 of an annual sake competition in Paris), Mr SAWADA Harugin (Tsugaru shamisen player) and the tea masters led by Mr MORI Soyu.
