4 July 2025: Re-election of Professor Michida Yutaka as the Chair of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)

　Professor Yutaka Michida (University of Tokyo) was re-elected as the Chair of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) at its 33rd Assembly held from Wednesday, June 25 to Thursday, July 3.

　
　Japan would like to pay tribute to Professor Michida for his dedicated efforts over the past two years as IOC Chair, promoting the Decade of Ocean Science and the development of early warning and mitigation systems for tsunami and marine disasters, and will continue to support Small Island Developing States through IOC, in programmes of building geohazard early warning systems and climate-resilient coastal ecosystems.
