Respond to disasters through the Japanese Funds-in-Trust (response to the tsunami caused by the earthquake off the Kamchatka Peninsula etc.)
2025/8/9
The Emergency Fund supported by the Japanese Funds-in-Trust (JFIT) enables UNESCO to implement measures aimed at minimising secondary disasters in affected areas, supporting recovery efforts, and enhancing preparedness in the event of large-scale disasters.
Following the tsunami caused by the earthquake that occurred off the coast of Kamchatka Peninsula on 29 July 2025, a technical assessment will be conducted through collaborative research and analysis between the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the International Tsunami Information Center (ITIC) to improve tsunami early warning systems.
