On December 18, Ambassador Kano hosted a reception at his Residence to celebrate the decision made at the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in New Delhi, India from December 8 to 12, to inscribe three items proposed by Japan as extension basis, namely “Traditional skills, techniques and knowledge for the conservation and transmission of wooden architecture in Japan,” “Washi, craftmanship of traditional Japanese hand-made paper,” and “Yama, Hoko, Yatai, festival floats in Japan.”
In his speech, Ambassador Kano expressed gratitude to the member states of the Intergovernmental Committee and UNESCO Secretariat, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage. He also took this opportunity to introduce Japan’s nomination to the World Heritage, “Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara.”
