Meeting between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and H.E. Prof. El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO

 On March 27, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and held a meeting with H.E. Prof.  Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The meeting commenced at 5:30 p.m. local time (1:30 a.m. on March 28 Japan Time) and lasted for approximately 30 minutes. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
 
1.    Minister MOTEGI extended his congratulations on the H.E. Mr. El-Enany’s assumption of the Director-General’s office. Furthermore, he mentioned that Japan, which marks the 75th anniversary of its membership of UNESCO this year, has long collaborated with UNESCO across diverse fields such as education, science and culture, including cultural heritage preservation and disaster risk reduction, and expressed Japan’s intention to continue close cooperation with UNESCO.
 
2.    Director-General El-Enany welcomed Minister MOTEGI’s visit to UNESCO Headquarters and expressed appreciation for Japan’s longstanding support in multiple areas since its accession.
 
3.    Both sides concurred to continue cooperation and further develop the relationship between Japan and UNESCO in various fields.
