14 April 2026: Reception presenting the site “Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara” towards its upcoming inscription on the World Heritage List

 On 14 April, Ambassador Kano hosted a reception at his Residence gathering Members of the World Heritage Committee to present “The Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara”, nominated for inscription on the World Heritage List. Delegations from 14 out of the 21 Member States composing the World Heritage Committee attended the reception. The nomination is scheduled to be examined at the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee to be held in Busan, Republic of Korea, next July.

 On this occasion, Mr. Nishimura Takanori, Vice Governor of the Nara Prefecture attended the event to introduce the historical background of the Asuka period, the component sites of the “Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara”, as well as local initiatives towards World Heritage inscription. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session and an exchange of views with the participants.
