28 May 2026: Tasting of Japanese tea awarded at “Japanese Tea Selection Paris” Competition

On May 28, Ambassador Kano hosted at his Residence a tasting reception for six types of Japanese tea that won the Grand Prix at the “Japanese tea Selection Paris” Competition organized in France by Euro Japan Crossing (EJC). He invited representatives from the UNESCO Delegations. The event was held in presence of Ms. TORIUMI Rika, Representative of EJC.
In addition to a presentation on tea and a demonstration of a traditional Tea Ceremony by Japanese Tea Ambassador Ms. IIMORI Rika, an atelier was also held, where participants could prepare matcha themselves. In addition to matcha, tastings of the Grand Prix-winning sencha, tamaryokucha, gyokuro, and Japanese black tea were proposed, providing participants with an opportunity to experience Japanese tea culture.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Kano stated that Japan’s profound tea culture resonates with UNESCO’s spirit of promoting peace and mutual understanding through culture.
