Meetings on the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its two Protocols (1954, 1999)
The following meetings on the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its two Protocols (1954, 1999) took place in December 11-15 at UNESCO HQ in Paris.
 
1.15th Meeting of the High Contracting Parties to the Hague Convention (135 Member States):11 December, 2023
2.10th Meeting of the Parties to the Second Protocol of 1999 to the 1954 Hague Convention(88 Member States):12-13 December,2023
3.18th meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict(12 Committee Members):14-15 December,2023
 
During the 15th Meeting of the High Contracting Parties to the Hague Convention, Japan reiterated its commitment to protect cultural property in the event of armed conflict and congratulated UNESCO on the 70th and 25th anniversaries of the 1954 Hague Convention and the 1999 Second Protocol, respectively, which will be celebrated next year (speech attached).
In addition, at the 18th meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, Mariko Fujioka, Associate Professor of Kokugakuin University, was elected as Rapporteur from Japan (Committee member from 2022-2026).
