7 March 2024: Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education

On 7 March, an Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education adopted a plan of action for 2024-2025.
The Convention entered into force in March 2023 and currently numbers 28 States Parties. Under this Global Convention is the “Tokyo Convention”, a regional convention for the Asia-Pacific region, regrouping 12 countries.
This Global Convention defines the rules for the recognition of university level qualifications between the States Parties in order to catalyze international student exchanges; it is also the first international convention on higher education of the United Nations.
As Vice-Chair, Japan is strongly involved in the implementation of the Convention.
