5 September 2006: Japan finances the project "Literacy Learning Material Production in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines "
This project, financed under the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Capacity-building of Human Resources, is another example of Japan 's support for Education for all (EFA). This sixteen-month project began in June 2006.
Context and objectives of the project:
In 2005, the Government of Saint-Vincent and the Grenadines launched a nation-wide literacy programme called the "National Literacy Crusade".
This project aims at assisting Saint-Vincent and the Grenadines in reaching EFA goals by improving the capacity-of the National Literacy Crusade to develop locally relevant learning materials. It will also increase the capacity of the Adult Education Unit of the Ministry of Education of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to formulate and package literacy programmes for distance learning as well as assessment tools.
Activities foreseen:
-the equipping of offices for in-house publishing
-the training of 45 education specialist in the development of learning material
-the printing of learning materials
-the development of a literacy programme via distance modes (development of a literacy learning programme package for radio broadcasting and of literacy learning pages in a newspaper)
-the assessment of the impact of the National Literacy Crusade
This project will improve the level of literacy for 9,000 persons over the age of 15 who have participated in the National Literacy Crusade Programme
