23 February 2009: Artist for Peace Ms Missa Johnouchi supports World Heritage
18 August 2006 : Missa Johnouchi named UNESCO Artist for Peace
Ms Missa Johnouchi, Japanese composer and conductor, has been designated UNESCO artist for peace by the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koichiro Matsuura.
This nomination pays tribute to Ms Johnouchi's contribution to UNESCO's mission and in particular to UNESCO's programme on tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Ms Johnouchi will continue to promote the safeguarding of cultural heritage through her concerts. She will also donate a percentage of the CD sales to UNESCO and actively participate in the commemoration of the 1300th Anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo, a World Heritage Site.
This nomination as UNESCO Artist for Peace follows those of Mr Eijin Nimura, violonist, in 1998, of Ms Miyako Yoshida, ballerina, in 2004 and of Countess Setsuko Klossowska de Rola, painter, in 2005.
